STATE CUP EXPERIENCE FOR YOUTH SIDES
Avalon was well represented as the 2021 Football NSW State Cup kicked off last weekend. With the 2020 edition cancelled due to COVID-19, it was a step into the unknown for many teams making their first entry into statewide competition.
Our U13/2 side drew Northern Suburbs powerhouse Northbridge Saints in Round 2, with the game played at Cromer Park. Avalon eventually went down 2-0, but did the club proud with a dogged, determined effort in an enjoyable spectacle.
Coach Paul Wood is rightly proud of his team and the support of sponsor MCK Architects back again with the team this year.
Elsewhere our U14s also faced a tough trip to Quakers Hill to face Ponds FC, riding high in the Blacktown Association. Despite losing 6-2, the team received a glowing endorsement from their opposition coach who claimed Avalon were “the best team they had played all season.”
The State Cup offers our teams terrific

AL1s SECURE BIG WIN
The Men’s AL1 side went into Saturday’s home game against a much fancied Manly Vale looking to register their first Careel Bay win of the season. At the end of the game they had done exactly that, coming from behind to win 2-1.
Manly Vale had the better of the early exchanges and went 1-0 up around the 20 minute mark. This seemed to be a lightbulb moment for the lads who after the goal started controlling and maintaining possession and this combined with the pressing of the Manly Vale defence, started to make inroads. Rob Fleming’s side created a number of chances which ultimately led to Jack Murata scoring his 2nd of the season just before half time.
In the second half the team took another step forward and repeatedly managed to cut through Manly Vale’s midfield and create a number of chances which resulted in Elliot Green coming off the
